he holidays are here, so it’s time for family photos, holiday cards, and festive and jolly things. I’m all about hiring a professional photographer to capture life’s beautiful moments, but let’s be honest, it’s not always in the budget, especially during the holidays.
I’m going to show you how you can easily recreate these photos I took for under $20!
Head to your local target, walmart or dollar store and grab some fun props! I used some small ornament balls, fairy lights, and beaded garland. But get creative! Add in some candy canes, switch up the colors or just work with what you already have at home. The focus is going to be on your little one and the props just help create the holiday vibe.
Set up the scene (and the baby) and start snapping away!
You don’t need a fancy camera! You can use portrait mode on your phone to get a nice creamy background
Switch up positions, get low on the ground if you have too!
Encourage your baby to be themselves and play with the items and capture their honesty curiosity
Always have the flash off! You can play with the lighting later when editing
I edit my photos in Lightroom (they have a free mobile app and also a paid desktop version) You can purchase a Lightroom preset (think of it as a filter) or play around with the colors and shadows yourself to create the look you are going for.
I use presets from Lou and Marks (they have a TON to choose from and are super affordable) but do note that even with a preset on, you might still have to tweak the colors and shadows.
Be patient! I usually have to take 100 photos to get a few good ones
Most importantly HAVE FUN WITH IT!
